A native of Vermont, Melissa Chapin grew up drawing underneath her father's drafting table. Draftsmanship was language in her home, one that has sustained her throughout her life.

Melissa was named a Vermont Scholar and was educated at the University of Vermont and New York University. She studied art throughout her education but moved to New York as a researcher. Within a year she began full time studies at the Art Students League of New York with Bruce Dorfman, William Scharf and Knox Martin.

An Artist in Residence with the Creative Center in New York, NY for eight years, Melissa exhibited and brought her artwork and process into the community.

Melissa currently maintains a full time studio practice in the Pioneer Valley.
